Aquifer® Web Services Foundation 5.4 announced6/21/2004
Systems Management Engineering today announced a new release of Aquifer, the Aquifer® Web Services Foundation 5.4. The Aquifer solution helps developers build new .NET Windows Forms smart client applications or re-platform non .NET client/server applications to run over the Internet. Developers use single-line-of-code method calls to access data stores managed by the Aquifer middle-tier and other Web services based functions. Reductions in design and coding of 50% or more can be achieved using Aquifer as the foundation for smart client development. And Aquifer helps developers rapidly build tightly secured and dynamically managed applications.

New features in Aquifer® Web Services Platform Foundation include:
  1. Active Directory support?provides developers and system administrators a 6 different login scenarios including local network and internet-wide logins using:
    1. Aquifer defined user security credentials
    2. Active Directory defined user credentials; this scenario includes single sign-on support
    3. Active Directory defined user credentials where user is part of an Active Directory group

The latter scenario requires that a user be part of an Active Directory group that has been defined to the Aquifer system. The user then inherits
  2. Native database driver support?provides developers with the ability to select between OleDB, ODBC or native driver access to databases
  3. Updated demo programs that demonstrate most of the Aquifer methods available in the Aquifer Web Services SDK plug-in.
